France Home: Les Rengues exteriors

Les Rengues home in the department of the Lot, France

Les Rengues sits on a large lot with a quiet neighbor on each side. Three houses on big lots, in the country, facing SE, maybe 500 meters north of a small arm of the Dordogne River. Very agricultural all around here. The immediate neighborhood (and thus the house, for us) is named: Les Rengues. It is a very quiet country setting with walnuts, corn, a bit of tobacco and a few other crops growing close by. Hunting, fishing (fly and other), canoeing, kayaking, a fine and well marked trail system, and rock climbing begin the list of local activities. Castles, from ruins to inhabited, are within easy biking distance. This area is known for truffles and fois gras. Very green with an interesting limestone geology (cave exploration anyone?) this is the rural (and not well known) heart of France, with a distinctly rural pace.

There are three bedrooms and a bedroom/office. The living room and dining room are together and central on the ground floor. The Master bedroom and office/bedroom are on the main floor (along with kitchen, laundry room) Bathroom with shower on main floor. Upstairs, two bedrooms and a full bathroom. The backyard is large and private with covered patio. Front gate can be locked at night.

The village of Tauriac is less than quarter-mile to the east of the house. The other nearby village, slightly larger, is Puybrun. It is about a mile north and a bit east. Two bakeries and two butchers (all very good) and a few other shops are in Puybrun with a Saturday farmer's market. Then, Bretenoux is a couple of miles east of Puybrun. It is a larger town with other services- gas, supermarket, banks, florist and so on.
